Royalists launch campaign for statue of the late Queen

Monday 19 February 2024 ¦ Council of The Royalists

The Royalists have today launched a petition to honour the life and legacy of our late Queen with a statue on Trafalgar Square’s fourth plinth. The petition reads:

“We, the undersigned, petition London Mayor Sadiq Khan to honour the life and legacy of our late Queen with a statue on Trafalgar Square's fourth plinth, suitably recognising the indelible mark she has left on the fabric of the nation.

Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-serving monarch in British history, guiding us through an unprecedented era of social, material, and technological change from post-war rationing to the digital revolution. Her Late Majesty's constancy throughout times of adversity as well as joy was tremendously beneficial to us all, and it is the very reason she confidently won the affection of all her people.

Trafalgar Square would provide an ideal setting to honour this extraordinary reign, not only due to its status as a symbol of national pride but also because it serves as an important link between London's major tourist thoroughfares. Millions traverse from afar to visit Trafalgar Square to admire its built environment, but also because it is a crossroads for Whitehall, The Mall, and Charing Cross Road. Placing a statue of Queen Elizabeth II on the fourth plinth would provide tourists and residents alike with a poignant reminder of the late Queen and her enormous contribution to the rich tapestry of our nation's history.

We implore Mr Khan to give due consideration to this proposal, which will enrich the cultural landscape of London and provide a fitting tribute to our late Sovereign of glorious memory. “
